Don't Let The Past Ruin Your future

By Margaret, 07 September, 2023.

This week a relative of mine passed away. He was less than 60 years old.

When I look at his life, I can see that his life took a big downturn when his marriage ended quite a while ago.  He just couldn’t seem to get his life back on track. His health suffered badly as he didn’t look after himself at all. That eventually lead to him passing away much too young.

It seems like such a waste of his life.

Are you living your life being true to yourself and what is important to you?

The late theologian Henri Nouwen writes in his book The Inner Voice of Love:

When you experience the deep pain of loneliness, it is understandable that your thoughts go out to the person who was able to take the loneliness away, even if only for a moment. When … you feel a huge absence that makes everything look useless, you heart wants only one thing – to be with the person who once was able to dispel these frightful emotions. But it is the absence itself, the emptiness within you, that you have to be willing to experience, not the one who could temporarily take it away.

Our members know that it is important to be proactive in their lives.
Some of them still have a little healing to do from a painful breakup. Some of them were the instigator of a breakup and are now ready to face the world as a single again. Some have dedicated a number of years to raising their children on their own.

Their courage is amazing and they bring a lot of fun and joy to the dinners. It is amazing that they are also the people who get the most out of their experience at dinner. Their feedback from the dinners is always positive too.

Not surprisingly, these same people are the ones who meet new friends and a special someone along the way. Stay positive and appreciate all the people you meet at dinner. Someone who at first doesn't fit all of your criteria may be just the special one for you.
